Kenya Tobacco Control Alliance (KETCA) in conjunction with Tharaka Nithi County’s ministry of health held a sensitization workshop with the key enforcement stakeholders in the region.
The workshop was meant to sensitize the team on the crucial role the enforcement organ plays in ensuring tobacco control policies are effectively implemented and enforced in the county. The team composed of public health officers was drawn from various sub-counties within the region.
Despite meager resources for tobacco control at the county, the Minister for Health gave commitments and assurances that tobacco control will be prioritized and will lobby for allocation of more money by the county government.
The mandates of the Committee
The Committee was mandated to work with other stakeholders in the region to ensure the Tobacco Control Act of 2007 is well implemented and violators are held to account. Of importance, the team was also charged with the responsibility of monitoring Tobacco Industry violations and taking appropriate action as mandated by the Act.
